Lecture Series - Drug Intervention in Clinical Pharmacy

“DRUG INTERVENTIONS IN CLINICAL PHARMACY"
By Dr Asif Khokhar, Chief Clinical Pharmacist, King Abdul Aziz Military Hospital, Tabuk, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Our invited guest, Dr Mohammad Asif Khokhar from the KAAMH, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, who has been serving as a clinical pharmacist and managed outpatient pharmaceutical services has more than 20 years of experiences in clinical pharmacy. During his lecture series, he gave presentation on the topic, “Drug Interventions in Clinical Pharmacy”. He discussed on the medication errors and several types of possible interventions. Mainly, his talk was focused on three parts: the statistics of interventions, examples of some potential interventions, and examples of some bad interventions. The purpose of this lecture is to allow students as well as lecturers to gain knowledge regarding the drug interventions in clinical pharmacy through the sharing of Dr Asif experience in his specialized field. As part of the healthcare team, pharmacists play a significant role as well in ensuring that patients receive the right medication.

This lecture series has provided an opportunity for the Pharmacy students to gain knowledge on drugs interventions and medication errors in the clinical pharmacy. As a professional pharmacist, our mission is to provide the right drug to the right patient in the right frequency and right dose as well as the right route of administration. We, pharmacists play an important role in providing the proper medication and quality health care services to the community.



Dr Asif is accompanied and assisted by Assoc. Prof Erni and Mr Ejaz during his lecture series at MSU.



Dr Asif begins his talk by starting with the types of interventions.


Lecturers, Dr Rasha and Madam Mazlina, together with the School of Pharmacy students participate in the talk.


Students are paying attention and showing great interest in the talk.


Focus and concentration are given during the talk by all participants.


Dr Asif is explaining about the drug interventions based on the statistical results obtained. 


Before the end of the talk, a token of appreciation is given to Dr Asif by Assoc. Prof Erni in gratitude of his brilliant talk in MSU.

NATIONAL PHARMACY SPORT CARNIVAL 2011@ PENANG

Good day bloggers. First of all, do forgive me because under circumstances, i am not able to post this report as early as i expected. However, here is the report regarding one of our biggest event for 2011. :)

The history of National Pharmacy Sport Carnival (NPSC) started from February 2008 was organized by School of Pharmacy, University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus (UNMC) and continued with second NPSC was organized by Faculty of Pharmacy from UiTM Shah Alam as well as the third NPSC 2011 was organized by School of Pharmacy, Management and Science University (MSU)

For this year, University Sains Malaysia had been honoured to be the host for 4th NPSC 2011. This event was held on 29th till 30th January 2010. The universities involved were University Malaya (UM), University Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), International Islamic Univeristy of Malaysia (IIUM), University Teknology Mara (UiTM), Management and Science University (MSU), Masterskill College of Nursing and Health, Cyberjaya University (CUCMS), AIMST University and University Sains Malaysia (USM)

Our team reached USM Penang on Friday evening and received a warm welcome from the organizer. The event start on Saturday, 29th January with modern games which were netball, basketball, volleyball, tennis, futsal, ping pong and takraw as well as badminton. We able to have representatives for the modern games except for volleyball, takraw and basketball. All the games ended early than expected which gave advantages to all players as they can have a good rest and pull their strength for the next day.

On Sunday, 30th January, the traditional games started which included batu seremban, upih pinang, tuju kasut and taril tali as well as galah panjang. The closing ceremony placed at Dewan Utama Desasiswa. NPSC 2011 had been officiate by YB. Prof. Dato' Omar Osman, Vice Chancellor, Hal Ehwal & Pembangunan Pelajar USM and also attended by Prof. Syed Azhar Syed Sulaiman, Dean School of Pharmaceutical Sciences USM.

Full of Activities

A Visit from Professor Dr. Kenji Sugibayashi

On Monday, 13 December 2010, our School of Pharmacy honored to accept the visiting from Dr Kenji Sugibayashi, Dean and Professor from Faculty of Pharmaceutical Science, Josai University, Japan. The two days programmed gave a lot of new knowledge for students as well as for lecturer. The first day, students and lecturers been filled with Prof Dr Kenji's talk regarding on Percutaneous Penetration of Cosmetics and Chemicals. In my opinion, the talk was successfully delivered and the knowledge give food for though for students to know better and perhaps doing research in that field. In fact, the lecturers were also interested shown from their eagerness in asking questions during the Q and A session. The second day, the selected students from each batch of Bachelor and Diploma been interviewed with Prof Dr Kenji. The interview went well with question and opinion regarding the Pharmacy course. At the end of the interview, Prof Dr Kenji advised the students to have good management time as well as to improve the soft skill.


MSU Pharmacy Sport Challenge/MSU Pharmacy Family Day

On saturday, 18 December 2010, our Pharmacy Club had organized MSU Pharmacy Sport Challenge/ MSU Pharmacy Family Day. The purpose of this events is to select players to represent our university for our National Pharmacy Sport Carnival (NPSC) 2011 that will held at the end of January 2011 at USM. Besides that, this event been organized in order to strengthen our bond between the juniors and the seniors of Bachelor and Diploma students. The event starts with registration of students around 7.30 am. The admission fees for registration was only RM5 for the food and beverage during the event. First activity was warming up lead by Hoirul Omal. The modern games and traditional games started at the same time. Futsal and traditional games such as 'batu seremban' and 'tuju kasut' as our opening games. The supporters were really know how to cheer the crowd. Then, the netball game start with both of the teams fiercely compete to score the higher goal. The last activity was the 'sukaneka' which from the word itself showed that the students were really enjoyed with the games that been organized. The games include 'eating pear' competition, 'blown up the balloons' competition and 'finish up' competition. Our beloved lecturer, Mr Khurshid was willing to spend his time for our prize ceremony.

Mentoring Activity- Community Service @ Perak Society of Mental Health Ipoh, Perak

Community service is one of the activities that been held under the Mentoring Program. There are few objectives of this program and one of them are to develop more soft skills among students as well as to promote unity among students.

One of the community services activities that been organized was activity to Perak Society of Mental Health, Ipoh, Perak Darul Ridzuan. It was held on 27-28 July 2010. The activity been participated by second year and third year students Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPH). The lecturer in charge was Mr Fadhli Asmani. One of the lecturer from School of Pharmacy, Mr Junaedi was wiling to come and joined the activity.The theme was 'Caring Is Not Only Sharing'. It is means to emphasize our purposes to create the awareness among students and show our care towards community.

Bridging course - community service @ Zoo Negara


Some lecturers including those from the School of Pharmacy (Mr Ibrahim and Ms Veno) recently went to zoo to supervise MSU new students doing a community service.

The students were given tasks like cleaning up the cage, etc.
